Lyrics.com offers more than song words; they encourage you to connect with other music fans and discover new music.  With much competition in this market, Dozenmusic.com paid them a visit to ponder our own words about their service.

Party in the US

The People section has photos of members so that you can browse profiles and playlists and connect to those you want to befriend or share music ideas with. Lyrics.com is building up its own music social networking site but overall it had less inventive ways for individuals to find likeminded friends.

It has a dated feel about it. You can find songs and stream them (usually through YouTube) as well as share them amongst friends, but there are no handy Facebook or MySpace share buttons and you can only share via email. Another failure is the lack of a more modern recommendations tool.

How easy is it to find exactly what you need on this site? We tried and tested it out and graded..
Searching for music is less sophisticated than on rival music networks.  You can use the free search box or trawl through an alpha list but there are no filters for different genres or countries.

Does this network organize, host or have a place for social events? Can you meet up with other members? We evaluate the events....
The search engine was unable to cope with less popular searches but did the biz with popular choices, both old and new although across different genres. Not as extensive as other sites and certainly less cutting edge.

Membership is free and allows you to enjoy the music community within the site.  The music, however, can be streamed in full without membership and as the social features are quite limited this free membership is not really such a great feature.

Is this site legit? Does it offer dodgy streams or quality content? We asked the awkward questions so you don’t have to. .
You can play full length videos for free.  There is no statement about copyright on this site.  The issue is completely avoided, so we guess that says it all.

How interactive is this site? Is there a Facebook Group? Twitter? RSS feeds? Linked In? Forum? We found out. .

Rival sites have snazzy tools to discover those with the same tastes or offer places for music fans to hang out and find friends/share music.  On Lyrics.com you are left to trawl through the profiles of others to find out their musical tastes. There is a filter system but it seems more focused around finding potential partners than fellow music fans and is clearly missing a filter category on genre.

Finding the best people to connect with and discovering new music through the community is too rudimentary and longwinded on this site.

What else can I do here? We gave extra points to sites with RSS feeds, images, video, mobile and audio. .
In line with the site’s general ‘still playing catch up’ feel, there is no mobile service, no RSS feed, no podcasts and a generally poor use of multimedia.

Is this site up-to-date? Can you find the latest releases and the new bands that everyone’s talking about?.
The site had a few new releases but lacked depth in this area.  It also lacked general music and celebrity news and information but did have a section promoting live gigs.
